Alleged misappropriation of bailout funds: Labour wants Buhari to investigate Govs
The organized labour at the national level  has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC led Government to urgently institute a high powered investigative committee to look in to the alleged mismanagement of bailout funds recieved by many States of the federation.

The NLC President Comrade Ayuba Waba who spoke during a simpathy visit to the striking Kogi State workers at the NLC secretariat in Lokoja said Buhari should extend his anti corruption fight to the States where bail out funds have reportedly been mismanaged or diverted by Government officials.

He was speaking against the backdrop of reports by the Kogi State NLC chairman Comrade Onuh Edoka who alleged that they were in the dark about the utilization of the N20B bailout funds for the purpose for which the loan was obtained in the State.

He also alleged that they were not involved in the committee for the disbursement as stipulated by the CBN rule for the disbursement hence they doubt whether it has been disbursed.

Continuing the NLC national President said “I want to use this mediun to call on the President and commander in chief of Arm forces to investigate the issue of Bail out mismanagement.

“This is an administration that believes in the rule of law, we are also fighting corruption and therefore the president must ganner the will and the courage to ensure that no arm of Government under his watch is allowed to mismanage the bailout.”

He recalled the report by ICPC that had clearly indicated that many States have misappropriated the bail out thereby jeopardizing the purpose for giving the loans to them.

“We therefore call on the Federal Government to urgently institute a very high powered committee to investigate the utilization of these bail outs because the bailout is a loan.

“If it is wrongly applied, it mean that years to come the States would be in the same predicamemt.”

Waba threatened to bring the entire workforce in the country to Kogi State if issues that led to the four weeks old industrial action by its members are not resolved in the next four weeks.

“I want to assure you that this is a struggle we are committed to, if it means bringing the entire working force in the country here we would do that.”

He promised to write the Governor and the President on their plan to occupy Kogi untill the demands of workers are met.

The NLC President referred to the Kogi scenario as the worse in the country adding that there is no State where the Governor has forcefully opened unsolicited accouts for all the workers from far places only in two banks.

He observed that it was against the fundental human rights of workers as they can open account whereever they want.

He said with BVN it is very easy for anybody to valuate and therefore the flimsy excuse of forcing all workers to open account in the two Banks where the workers have to pay N5000 to come to Lokoja the city center to access their  money was an act of cruelty and corruption.

“Therefore let me say, if this issue is not addressed within the next four weeks, 2M of the 6M working people of Nigeria will be here to occupy the State.

“If they think that because you are few in number, they can intimidate and divide you, we will declare a national action and therefore, we sympathise with your predicament.”

He said it was the height of cruelty for anybody to work for seven months and he is not paid.

He said just as they did in Imo where the workers were pushed to the wall it would be repeated in Kogi where workers are being pushed to the wall.

He explained that, when bailout for Kogi was withheld, NLC intervened through a formal letter to the federal government to release the bailout for Kogi adding that the letter was responded to immediately before the bailout was released. “Therefore, how will it now turn out that the bailout is released and it has not been transparently utilized. That is a sad commentary.

“Let me also give you some instances that in many states, when they collected the bailouts, committee were put in place comprising labour, ICPC, security agencies and the bailouts were transparently disbursed.

‘Why is the case of Kogi state different.’

He commended the organized labour for their resilience adding that all over the world nobody gets his rights while sitting down.

“There is a price for liberty anywhere in the world and the price for liberty is internal vigilance. We have heard your predicaments but thought we can not have the comfort of sitting in Abuja without coming to see you.”

He said they have confirmed the information the recieved and have seen saying they would chart a way forward if the Government would agree to dialogue.

However he said, “If it means bringing the entire workforce of Nigeria to Kogi as we did in Imo they would do as no force on earth is stronger than the single strength of all of us.

“They can bring all the forces on earth but the single strength of one us with God is a majority.”

The security agents including the police, Deparrment of State Security Services (DSSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps mounted surveillance at the NLC secretariat.

At a point the NSCDC agents almost caused a serious pandemonium when they attempted to disrupt the peaceful rally but the DSSS and commissioner of police advised against such resort to use of force.

Hence the labour leaders berated the Civil defense for trying to cause pandemonium where there was no need.

However, Confluence Update reports that many of the workers have confirmed that they have recieved alerts for three months.

Others two months while some arr still waiting.

The Academic Union Of Universities Kogi State University Branch and the Polytechnec and College of education lecturers in Ankpa and Kabba have.been paid four months of their arrears.

Government has promised to pay the remaining amount in due course adding that tjose that are yet to get any alert are also being sorted out.
