Don’t destroy party loyalty, dedication Makarfi warns PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) should not destroy the zeal and determination of its members that have remained loyal and dedicated to the ideals of the party by ceding every availlable goodies to new entrants
The former caretaker chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has warned.
Senator Makarfi who was speaking on Friday in Lokoja while on a visit to the party Secretariat in continuation of his nation wide tour to solicit support for his presidential ambition also cautioned the party against destruction of the virtue of party loyalty and dedication by members.
He warned against making unrealiseable promises to the returnees at the expense of loyal party members.
He recalled the recent bitter experience when Modu Sherrif joined the Party only to work for its disintegration cautioning that the party should be careful about who they accept back into the party among the defectors.
“We would never forget the mistake we made when Modu Sheriff was brought, sheriff came from another party with well starched and long cap, they say he has millions, he has three jets, he will revive the party, but what did he do?
“He was taking the party down, he was selling the party, I that was considered to be a bush boy without money I was told to rescue the party and I rescued it. Why because people trusted me and they believed in my capacity.”
He said the party emerged victorious people followed him based on trust so ‘when I said let us us go this way they followed me and we came out victorious.’ Continuing he said, “History may repeat itself if we are not careful, you will start seeing new players with all kinds of narratives, either money, either this or that, if we gamble with that, it will be the end of PDP I am serious.
“The same narratives that were used at that time, God so kind we had time and we were able to overcome but in this case we dont have that time. If we make that mistake that is the end of it.”
He said the time between now and election is so short hence the party should be cautious warning that if it should make that mistake it would be a disaster not just for PDP but disaster for Nigeria.
He said for some politicians at the slightest provocation they will just jump to another party.
“Any little issue they will run away and a little while when they are not comfortable they will come back.
“But we must be careful so that we dont create the impression that it does not pay to be loyal or committed because it would discourage people from doing so and that will destroy the party.
He cautioned that the party must be careful how it accommodate and integrate the people that are coming into the party.
“Everything must be balanced in such away that we take care of the loyal and dedicated party men. We must not create a situation where you have a home and a visitor comes and you give him guest room to stay and the next day he wants the master bedroom and the next day he wants you to leave your home for him, does that happen in any society? No, PDP must never allow that kind of thing to happen.
He asked the party to receive as many as come to rejoin the party and that they should let them have their rights and previlledges.
The former chairman asked the party know what to give to the decampees and what they should not get otherwise the problem that will come for PDP may be problems it might not be able to overcome as it head towards the election year.
Makarfi also warned those clamouring for restructuring to be careful so as not to hand over the responsibility of restructuring to those who should not be trusted with power.

Instead, Makarfi called for institutional restructuring where our institutions would be strong enough to make every public office holder to be accoutable for his actions or inactions while in Office.
“The most important restructuring which if we dont do, no matter the financial or political restructuring it would not work and that is institutional restructuring.
“What do I mean by institutional restructuring INEC should be answerable to Nigerians, the police should be answerable to Nigerians, the agencies like EFCC, ICPC should be answerable to Nigerians not just the powers that be. “What we have in the system now is if you are in power you are right but if you are in opposition you are wrong.
“We must restructure them so that they can serve Nigeria irrespective of their political biases, religious, ethnic bias or whatever kind of bias.”
He sighted a country like South Africa where it’s sitting President Zuma was made to answer for his wrong doings.
He said Nigeria should embrace that either as a President, Governor or minister they can be charged for wrong doing.
“In the situation whereby opposition are just arrested because they are opposition that is a banana republic. We have to restructure so that we would not have a banana republic in Nigeria.
“This has to be done for checks and balances so that even while you are in office or not you can be made to account for your wrong doing.”
“The police, Judiciary, Electoral body,INEC ,EFCC and so on would be strengthened so as to make every body no matter your position to be accoutable.

Speaking on why he thinks he is qualified to be the next President, Senator Makarfi said that there is so much hunger in the country, our health facilities are in poor conditions, inadequate security are the order of the day.

” If all these are absent in a country, it means all is not well and I am eminently qualified to reverse the trend” he said.

According to him “as someone with  experience in conflict resolution, and having proved my mentle in stirring the ship of the party when it was engulfed in crisis soon after loosing the last presidential election, I think I will do well as the president if given the chance.

“Our country needs equity and fairness and i can gurantee that”.

Makarfi indicated that he has been tested and trusted as the Governor of Kaduna state and Senator of the federal republic when he did not disappoint then saying that certainly, he will not disappoint if given the chance.

Also speaking at the occasion, the state party chairman, Engineer Sam Uhuotu said that Senator Makarfi has proved his worth in the way he handled the crisis in the party when he was the caretaker chairman.

“He was able to rescue the Party from somebody who sold it out

Haccirding to him, Makarfi was once described as a general without gun for being on top of security situation when he was governor of Kaduna state” he added.

Cross River: Odey is the senator for Northern Senatorial Zone says Eba

**says Appeal Court Calabar affirmed him as the duly elected candidate of the PDP

The Director-General, Cross River State Due Process, and Price Intelligence Bureau, Alphonsus Ogar Eba has stated in unequivocally clear terms that Dr. Stephen Odey remains the serving Senator for Cross River North insisting no court order has asked him to vacate his seat in the Senate.

Speaking recently to journalists, Eba said, on the issue of two certificates of returns, one looks like a worthless Zimbabwean dollar in the hand of my dear friend and brother Hon. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe. A duly issued certificate of return was given to Senator Stephen Adi Odey and it was on that basis, the senate president has sworn him in as the senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he has been so sitting since on the 16th of December up to this moment and as we speak, he is even sitting in the senate today that is because the purported certificate of return which was issued by INEC, “I wouldn’t know what was their persuasion but I think to excuse them, it was total ignorance of the clear provision of section 75 subsection 1 to the provisor and other subsection 2 with the communique written of section 141 of the electoral act and section 285 subsection 13 of the constitution of Nigeria”.

Eba stressed further, “the crisis of the cross river north senatorial seat was an avoidable and unnecessary political tussle, the two actors are very good friends in fact the sitting senator today was the DG of Hon. Jarigbe joint campaign in 2019, the vacuum was created by the demise of late Senator Dr. Mrs. Rose Oko and so the party thought it wise that, this vacuum should be completed by somebody from the same local government where the woman died because this is Ogoja/Yala federal constituency, two local government. In 2019 the decision was taken that, the house of the representative seat should be in Ogoja and the senate seat should be in Yala local government because Yala is quite larger than Ogoja and so with the vacuum created, they needed somebody to fill and cover this remaining two years of the late senator and in doing so, no other person than the young man who has been chairman of SUBEEB, whose projects were littered across any political wards and whose acceptability cannot be questioned because it was even based on that acceptability that Hon. Jarigbe in the first place chose him to be DG of his campaign organization, wonderful friends, in fact the moment the candidacy or aspirations of Senator Stephen Odey expressed, Hon. Jarigbe came on his social media page to express his support and said the man works, everybody must rally around him. There is nothing we did not do, me in particular, I went on my knees to beg them because the persons involved are my friends because Hon. Jarigbe confided in me that, all he wanted was an opportunity to go a third term in 2023, and I said, since this is the case, come let us sit down with the leadership of the party and see how we can drive this but you see When a man no longer has control of his own decision and someone else is the one beating the drums for him, all he has to do is a dance to the tune. We wouldn’t know what exactly led to this crisis but our discovery today is that somebody somewhere else is stoking this fire, there is no need going into that now because all that has gone into no issue and his attempt to win at the primaries failed, the party nominated senator Dr Stephen Odey set his name to inec, he was the only one that filled the nomination paper of the party in inec, contested the general election on the 5th of December and he won with over one hundred and nineteen thousand votes against his closest rival of the APC who polled about nineteen thousand votes and every attempt made by Rt. Hon. Jarigbe to stop either the issuance of certificate of return failed even his attempt to stop the senate from swearing in failed and even the attempt at the supreme court also failed, At every point he keeps failing.

Eba clarified further that, what the supreme court did, you might look at it from the standpoint of whether there is a victor or vanquish and if there is anybody to be called a vanquish is still Hon. Jarigbe because as at today, the only thing the supreme court did was by the majority decisions of four justices declared jurisdiction and refused to hear the appeal for which leave has been granted to senator Stephen ode from the court of appeal to appeal against a judgement which he was not part of but which he applied to be joined as an interested party, it actually wont have bugged us be cause, on the authority of the supreme court as in the case Barrister Shofulu Chukwueze Onwuka vs PDP, the supreme court has finally put to rest, that if you are not a party to a suit, any order made in that case is not binding on you however we wanted the supreme court to be aware of the Nicodemus and criminally orchestrated arrangement where somebody goes, having a matter in calabar which he lost and uses one of his boys to come and sue him, we wanted to tell the world the diabolical, unpresidential dimension in which our politics was taken and so the supreme court by the decision of the four justices were not courageous enough to look at the substance of the matter in the case but we are console by the decision of the minority particularly one of the justice who came up boldly to decimate her colleagues to say, this kind of judgement is going to put the judiciary in bad light and today that has come to show.

Eba commended the state governor his excellency for the development in cross river state and he calls the state governor, the Lee kwa yun we found again after the one we found in Singapore, the man who collects less than what you could call a paltry sum from FAAC and even from our IGR but when you get to cross river state and you see the line of gigantic project taking on from the civil service dependent state to an industrialize state, today as i speak to you, almost twenty seven industries are almost up and set to rub with about nine already completed running starting from the rice mill, cocoa processing, garment factory, poultry and feed mill, pharmaceuticals company, block molding factory , roofing sheet factory etc and the question has always been, where do you get this money from and the governor has told everybody clearly that, our emphasis is to make sure we provide employment because the experience if #endsars further comes to tell us that the army of young men you found in the community if engage in the proper venture, they will do away with this and today in marking his fifty third birthday anniversary, the governor has open the fabrication academy if west Africa with over seven thousand youths today enrolling to start various trade as students at no cost at all with all the provision made by the government and just recently twenty thousand youths have been engaged across the local government as a way of taking unemployment off the street.

Your plot is to forcefully take over Zamfara under the guise of state of emergency, PDP to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over what it described as a sinister plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Federal Government to forcefully take over the governance of Zamfara state through an imposition of an orchestrated state of emergency in the state.

This was contained in a statement that was issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary,Kola Ologbondiyan

The Statement reads in Part, “Our party rejects this attempt by power-mongers in the APC administration to undermine and subvert the democratic order in Zamfara state by creating the impression that the state government, under Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle, is to blame for the failures of the APC-led federal government to contain insecurity in the state.
“I is instructive to recall that the plot by the APC to derail the Matawalle administration and forcefully take over the control of the state started immediately after the Supreme Court handed him victory in the Zamfara state governorship election.”
He said the plot heightened after Governor Matawalle refused the pressure to decamp to the APC.
“Nigerians can recall that our party had on December 19, 2020 issued a statement to alert of plots by the National Caretaker Committee of the APC, using an impostor, as spokesperson, to heighten insecurity in the Northwest part of our country.
“The PDP had in that statement, further alerted of conspiracies by the APC to use the said impostor to destabilize Northwest states, particularly Zamfara, by creating the space for acts of violence and blame it on Governor Matawalle.
“Our party had also expressed concerns on series of devious statements against Governor Matawalle by the APC, a party that has been exposed to be encouraging acts of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping in our country.”
Ologodiyan therefore invited Nigerians to further note how the APC has been quiet over disturbing videos, which had gone viral, showing self-confessed bandits admitting their fury of being abandoned by the APC after the party use them to muscle the 2015 and 2019 elections.
“Equally disturbing is the attempt by some APC leaders, who are masquerading under extraneous organizations, to seek political capital out of the situation in Zamfara state, which escalated due to the failures and compromises of the APC-led administration.
“We demand that the APC should leave Governor Matawalle alone and take up their responsibility of confronting bandits, terrorists, kidnappers and vandals, particularly those they brought from other countries.
“Our party insists that the statutory onus, under our democracy, is on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government to secure life and property in all parts of Nigeria, including Zamfara state.”

It is further instructive to state that the Matawalle administration adopted an intervention approach as a distressed measure following the manifest failures of the Buhari Presidency to guarantee the security of lives and property in the state.

It is on record that Governor Matawalle is not the first Governor, particularly in the North West, to adopt such approach in the face of the huge incapacity of the Buhari administration to save lives.

More so, there is escalated banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of violent acts in APC controlled states of the North West, like Kaduna and Katsina;  in the North East of Borno and Yobe as well as the North Central states of Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau and Kogi, yet no attempt has been made by the Buhari Presidency to intimidate the governors of the various states, seek to impose a state of emergency or declare such states as “no fly zone”.
