Arsenal yesterday ended the season on a good note with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over relegated Aston Villa, a feat that saw the Gunners dislodge their bitter rivals Tottenham to finish second on the final log.

Arsenal’s win came just as Nigerian teenage international Kelechi Iheanacho scored for Man City against Swansea in a match that ended 1-1. The result was good enough to earn City a UEFA champions league spot for next season which was a good parting gift for Manuel Pellegrini who is stepping aside for incoming manager Pep Guardiola. For the 21st season in succession , Arsenal unseated Spurs who buckled to an embarrassing 5-1 hammering at St James Park from relegated 10- man NewCastle United.

A hat trick from Oliver Giroud and an own goal by Villa’s Mark Bunn completed the comprehensive victory that earned the Gunners a well deserved second position finish for the first time since 2005,

when they were runners -up to Chelsea. Nigeria’s wonder kid, Kelechi Iheanacho’s early strike , was all Manchester City needed to seal fourth place and a spot in next season’s Champions League following their 1-1 draw with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Iheanacho’s goal just five minutes into the game is his eight premier league goal but Andrew Ayew leveled the scores for Swansea City from a deflected free kick off the edge of Man City wall.

Meanwhile, a fake explosive device at Old Trafford has led to Manchester United’s final Premier League game of the season being abandoned.

Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion of a suspicious item described as an “incredibly lifelike explosive device” by Greater Manchester police. The side’s match against Bournemouth

was abandoned after the device was discovered in the stadium’s north-west quadrant.

Greater Manchester police announced in a statement on Twitter: “Bomb disposal experts carried

out controlled explosion at Old Trafford on what is described as incredibly lifelike explosive device “.
