Falae describes APC as den of illegality urges Nigerians to reject APC
The national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae, has urged Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 elections describing the party as a den of illegality.
He charged them to start the rejection with the Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency bye election scheduled for Saturday.
Falae spoke at the grand finale rally of the candidate of the SDP for the election, Ahmed Imam, held at Lokoja, the state capital.
He also condemned the recent action of the APC controlled assembly for declaring vacant the seat of the former speaker of the Kogi state house of assembly.
Imam had defected to the SDP to contest the bye election occasioned by the death of the former majority leader of the house of representatives, Buba Jubril when he felt alienated by his former party APC.
According to him, recent developments in the country had shown that the ruling party was worse than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it claimed to have solutions to.
He urged the people of Lokoja in particular and Kogi in general to demonstrate their support for the former speaker by voting against the APC on Saturday.
Falae noted that Imam fulfilled the prescribed conditions that are spelt out in the constitution before a lawmaker could defect from his party to another.
Speaking on the declaration of vacancy in the Lokoja I state constituency seat, he said, “That is another evidence of illegality, arbitrariness and malice. The law says you can change party if your party is in crisis and factions have developed within the party.
“His party was APC but today we have APC and R-APC, two factions, the conditions for defection legitimately have been fulfilled, he exercised his right to leave a party in factions and joined SDP, so it is illegal, criminal and unconstitutional for the house of assembly to declare the seat vacant, we shall take them to court and the court will deal with them.
“I want to urge the people to turn to the SDP, that is the new party that all Nigerians are looking up to to safe them from corruption, incompetence and anarchy. A government ruled for 15 years, they messed up, we all clamoured for change, APC and they are far worse than PDP, so we urge Nigerians to turn to SDP, a party that has a wonderful manifesto and leaders who are without bkemmish, so the people of Kogi should start on Saturday and the whole Nigerians will follow.
On the invasion of the national assembly by security agents, Falae said, “The security force interfering with the functioning of the legislature is committing an illegality a rape of constitution, those involved should be arrested and dealt with according to law because is a threat to our democracy”.
Also speaking, National publicity of the Social Democratic Party Alfa Muhammed condemn the vacancy declaration on the seat of the former speaker.
He said the persecution of the former speaker started with when he was forced to resign as speaker after which they went ahead to declare his seat vacant. “The current speaker Mathew Kolawole decamped to the APC from The PDP and nobody declared their seat vacant, Senator Godswill Akpabio just decamped and his seat has not been declared vacant.”
He described the action as legislative rascality and ignorance of the law saying that they would challenge it in court.
He said it would spur Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency to declare their solidarity for the former speaker to become member of the House of representatives.
He said SDP would challenge it in court to forestall future legislative rascality from repeating itself.
“We have the hint that the APC has penciled down some leaders of the SDP for arrest on the eve of the bye election to stop them from offering useful and positive contribution to the victory of Imam.
“The national chairman has told the IG to warn his men not to descend into the political arena. He warned that they should take lesson from the sack of the DG of DSS. Any attempt to arrest our party leaders would be resisted.”
He warned civil servants not to quickly forget their pains of the non payment of salary for months because they would be given some money tomorrow.
