He also commended the former president for revolutionizing the almajiri school system in the North.
“I agree with those who call you an angel for conceding defeat. I salute you for that. You have made a name not just for yourself, but for Nigeria, Africa, all developing countries, and for democracy. So, I salute you.

“We salute you for what you did in that regard. We are multiplying the new model of almajiri schools in Kano. That is an important legacy you left for us,” Ganduje said.

Professor Utomi decries collapse of character in public life

Professor Pat Utomi says collapse of character in  public life is a major challenge, among many other challenges bedevilling the Nigerian nation.

Utomi said this when he made a remark at the launch of an autobiography of Sen.
Ator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia) in Abuja

The book  titled “Made in Aba” chronicles the life and times of Sen.Enyinnaya Abaribe from his turbulent days as deputy Governor to his days as senator representing Abia South.
It is  comprised of 10 chapters and 241 pages.

Utomi said there was an urgent need to pay serious attention on the  character  display  of Nigerians in public life.

“Our  country  is challenge in many ways, but more importantly, it is challenge of the collapse of  character  in public life, the crisis of our  country is the crisis of lost character.”

According to him, the autobiography of Abaribe seriously speakes to the challenge of nation building on how character is formed  in a person.

“I like to think of Sen.Abaribe as  representing the citizen in public Life”

He also decried the growing trend of tribalists in the nation noting that it was a bane to development.

“It seems some how in Nigeria that we are  lost in the world of tribes in Nigeria.

“But we can accend from  tribes men to the next level of becoming  the citizen, who, looks at our common humanity, looks at our common good, who is focused on how to advance the common good of all.

“And to me, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe   is one of the few politicians  from the South-East who is  truly a citizen in public life.”

Utomi,a Political Economists  also  emphasised the need for  citizens to always engage office holders on their activities for the good of all.

“Citizens are supposed to engage the state public officials, because we have not built up citizens, there is a gap between those who are in public life and the Nigerian people .

“And it has not helped us to develop because people in public life separates themselves from the people.

“But, Enyinnaya Abaribe continually returns to the people and speaks for the people and I think that this makes him a  unique  citizen in public life.”

Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State in his remark said Abaribe was reputed for speaking truth to power.

He said the author represents  what  a lawmaker should be  globally  given his courage to speak against injustice always.

High point of the book launch was the unveling of the book  and cutting of the 66 birthday cake of the  author who also is the celebrant.

Abia Gov replies senator Adeyemi, says he is a madman looking for rags to pick

The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has describe Senator Smart Adeyemi as a mad man looking for rags to pick, maintaining that he will not join issues with him as he may be mistaken for a madman also.
Speaking against the background of a recent outburst by the senator when he refferred to the Governor as a champagne guzzling Governor, he used Chinua Achebe’s narrative in one of his books that said, ‘If a madman picks your cloth while you are in the bathroom and takes off and you go after him naked nobody will know who is mad between you and him.
Senator Adeyemi representing Kogi West had veered off while contributing to a motion on the Urgent Need for the Restoration and Revalidation of the Safe School initiative in Nigeria when he described Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as a drunkard.
He also expressed sympathy for the Abia state people for being unfortunate to be governed by a champagne drinking Governor.
Ikpeazu who was special guest of honor at a book presentation by Senator Eyinaya Abaribe entitled ‘Made in Aba’ described senator Adeyemi as someone that is not serious minded who goes about discussing other people instead of issues on development that would move the country forward.
“I want to end my speech by volunteering for the first time, for those who might think that the man coming behind the microphone as the Governor of Abia State is a drunkard.
“Permit me to say that I don’t drink at all and I don’t begrudge those who drink. In order places, even countries that have lesser problems they discourse big issues of economic development and infrstructure, they don’t talk about what people do and what they don’t do.
“So for us as leaders, it is a calling, if you are called to lead, you are also called to be a mentor to the younger ones and what you say, how you carry yourself, the things you say and the times you say them will tell about how serious you are as a person.
“That will be the size of my response and I will end by borrowing what China Achebe said in his book, ‘If a madman picks your clothe while you are in the bathroom and takes off and you go after him naked, nobody will know who is mad between you and him.”
On the book which he said he has not read, he expressed his believe in the resilience and the can do spirit of the Aba people as what Abaribe must have captured.
He said, “For others it is going to be how to be a good deputy Governor and how to be a good Governor to your deputy, so all of these are perhaps the aspects of the various lessons we are all about to learn.
“If Sen. Abaribe fails to tell his story like somebody said earlier, by the time others tell the story, he will not be able to recognise himself anymore.
“But in this book though I have not seen or read it, I think that the caption points to something and that is the tenacity and never dying spirit that Aba exudes, it represents, reflects and encapsulates the personality of distinguished Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe.
“Aba does not bother about taking a fall because Aba is sure it will rise all the times it falls. And Aba is not deterred by anything in size, whatsoever.
“I am particularly happy and also, I’m proud of the accomplishments especially on this book because I have been trying to write a book which is about seven years. Some day I pray that I can be like him by the time my book is ready.”
