Herders have taken their onslaught against the Benue people to Guma, Governor Samuel Ortom’s Local Government Area in Benue State as they have killed thirteen persons, including a three-month-old baby.
The deaths which were recorded in two separate attacks happened on Tuesday barely a day after suspected herdsmen killed eight persons, including two aid workers, in the same local council.
The Locals said gunmen attacked a bus loaded with mourners who were returning from a burial at Umenger around Torkula village, resulting in the death of three persons. Two victims, who were shot, were reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital in Makurdi.
The three-month-old baby was shot in the chest, while its mother was shot on the lap.
Udei community was said to have been attacked on the same Tuesday night by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in which eight persons were killed.
The Chairman of Guma, Caleb Aba, while confirming the incidences said 13 persons were killed in the two attacks on Udei and Torkula.
In his words, “It is true that there was an attack yesterday. There was a burial in Torkula and people, who were returning from the burial, came under attack and about five were killed.
“Again at about 10 p.m., yesterday, there was another attack at Udei where about eight people were killed, totalling about 13 people only yesterday. Two persons were injured, by the information I received, and they are now receiving treatment in the hospital.”
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to be briefed on the attack and promised to revert as soon as she gets the information.
NDLEA uncovers 35wraps of cocaine concealed in ladys underwear at Lagos airport
Eagle eyed operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Saturday recovered 35 wraps of cocaine from the underwear of a lady, Okafor Ebere Edith during the outward clearance of passengers on Air Cotevoire, to Monrovia, Liberia from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos.
Director, Media and Advocacy of the Agency Femi Babafemi disclode that the suspect tucked the pellets of cocaine in her underwear to beat security checks at the Airport.
He said she was however picked up for search and questioning during which the wraps of the illicit drug were found on her.
He said the lady claimed to have ended up in a drug peddler due to her desire to make money.
Another suspect, Echendu Jerry Maduakolam, an intending male passenger going to Istanbul Babafemi said was arrested at Gate A departure hall of the MMIA on Tuesday during outward clearance of Egypt airline to Turkey with 78grams of cannabis mixed with dried bitter leaves.
“On the same day, another intending male passenger, Egbon Osarodion going to Milan, Italy was arrested at the airports Gate A departure hall during outward clearance of passengers on Egypt airline with different quantities of 225mg Tramadol and Rohypnol concealed in foil papers wrapped in a polyethylene bag.
Meanwhile, acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives from Kontagora Area command of the Agency in the early hours of Thursday 29th July 2021 raided a warehouse at Mailefe village in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger state, where drug supplies for bandits operating in parts of the state were stored.
After a thorough search of the warehouse, 125 bags of cannabis sativa were recovered while a man seen praying in front of the house fled into the forest when he sighted the narcotic officers from afar.
Chairman/ Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the commanders, officers and men of the MMIA and Niger state commands of the Agency for their continued efforts in tracking down traffickers of illicit drugs in their areas of responsibility. He charged them and their counterparts in other commands to remain focussed and resolute in pursuit of the goal to rid Nigeria of illicit substances and drug related criminalities.

Security operatives in Kogi have recorded a major feat in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the State as they killed a Kidnap kingpin in a gun duel on Saturday
The notorious kidnap gang leader was once reported to have kidnapped his own farther and collected a Ransom of 4 million naira
The deceased criminal was known for his nefarious kidnapping and armed robbery activities.
Hence he had always been on the list of wanted criminal suspects by law enforcement agencies until his waterloo after he engaged security operatives in the area
Also, it was reported that a combined operation led by Olamaboro Local Government Chairman, Hon. Adejoh Friday Nicodemus involving both teams from the neighborhood arrested another kidnap agent identified as Kizito Ocheme alias Igbo
The culprit it was gathered has been behind most of the kidnapping and terrorists’ activities between Olamaboro Local government and Otukpa branch of Ogbadibo Local government of Banue State but was apprehended while trying to escape by the security operatives in the area.
The Local Government Chairman, stated that the efforts of Governor Yahaya Bello and the entire leadership of Kogi State Government to guarantee the safety of lives and properties of citizens was yielding positive results as criminals now find Kogi as a no go area.
He added that following the directives of governor Bello that people should have peace to be able to sleep with their two eyes closed, his administration has been on the prowl for criminals
In his reaction, Governor Bello who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed indicated that is security can be resolved from the grassroots it would reflect positively on the state
He pointed out that the moral support being given to security operatives by Tge State Government is responsible for the successes in bringing peace to the State
He reiterated that Government at all levels would continue to put in more effort towards sustaining the drive for a peaceful Kogi state by making every nooks and cranny of the state unsafe for criminal elements and their sponsors
Police moves to redeem image, recommends suspension of Abba Kyari
In what looks like a major push to redeem the image of the Nigerian Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has written a letter to the Police Service Commission recommending for the immediate suspension of DCP Abba Kyari from the Service of the Nigeria Police Force.
Kyari who has been the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), was indicted by American authorities for allegedly being in bed with a notorious fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.
The police Public Relations Officer CP Frank MBA in a Statement issued in Abuja on Sunday said the suspension subsist pending the outcome of an ongoing internal investigations that has direct bearing on him.
“The IGP, in his letter to the Police Service Commission, dated 31st July, 2021, noted that the recommendation for the suspension of the officer, is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the Force.
“The IGP further noted that the suspension is also expected to create an enabling environment for the NPF Special Investigation Panel to carry out its investigations into the weighty allegations against DCP Abba Kyari without interference.
He said the suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer.
The statement explained that the Special Investigation Panel (SIP), is made up of four (4) Senior Police Officers, is headed by DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).
“The SIP, inter alia, is to undertake a detailed review of all the allegations against DCP Abba Kyari by the US Government as contained in relevant documents that have been availed the NPF by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“The SIP is also to obtain detailed representation of DCP Abba Kyari to all the allegations levelled against him, conduct further investigations as it deems fit, and submit recommendations to guide further actions by the Force Leadership on the matter. “
Meanwhile, the IGP has reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to the Rule of Law and assured the public of the sanctity of the probe as well as the absolute respect for the rights and privileges of the officer throughout the period of the investigations.
