How Saudi Arabia based oil expert was assassinated in Idah, Kogi State
Unknown gunmen have assassinated a Saudi Arabia based oil expert, Ogacheko Atanu, who visited home for the Yuletide holiday in his Idah residence of Kogi State.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Saturday night at about 11PM when the deceased was about retiring to bed.
It was also gathered that when the assassins stormed the compound of late Ogacheko Atanu, he was asked to say his last prayers before he was shot repeatedly.
His elder border, Mr Ukubile Atanu, who is a lecturer with the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, under Art and Design Department confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with our correspondent on Sunday.
Ukubile Atanu, who could not hold back his emotions while speaking with NatknalUpdate over the death of his younger brother charged security agencies to bring his brother’s killers to book.
According to him, “When they(gunmen) entered his compound at about 11PM on Saturday, they told his brother( late Ogacheko Atanu) to say his last prayers before they kill him.
“He told them that he will give them any amount of money so that they can spare his life, but they refused.
“That was how he was shot repeatedly and snuffed life out of him but curiously they didn’t touch the gateman.
“After he was killed, his gateman went straight to police station to report the incident. I must tell you, this is another black day in our family. Those behind this evil act must be brought to book” the source said.
It was further learnt that the deceased who is survived by four children, including an eighty years old mother was billed to travel out of Idah today, (Sunday), for Abuja were he is expected to pick a flight to Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) DSP William Avye Aya who also confirmed the incident said the command received a report about the assassination of the deceased at about 05:00 hours of Sunday.
“The security man of the deceased reported the incident to Idah Police division today at 05:00hours thay unknown masked men numbering about four entered the compound of the deceased by scaling through the fence.
“They told the security man to open the gate while the deceased was relaxing with his friend inside the compound. The gunmen told all of them to lie flat on the groubd. They later told the owner of the house to stand up and shot him. “His body had been moved to the mortuary for autopsy and effort is being intensified to get the perpetuators of this evil act” he added.
Aregbesola challenges paramilitary agencies to be proactive on grassroots intelligence against insecurity
Paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior have been given the marching order to up their ante in intelligence gathering especially in the grassroots and border communities to combat rising insecurity.
The minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, gave the charge during the decoration of senior personnel of the agencies from the ranks of Assistant Controller-Generals, Comptroller-Generals and Commandant-General, (ACGs), to the ranks of Deputy Controller-General, Comptroller-Generals and Commandant-Generals, (DCGs), held in Abuja, yesterday.
Intelligence gathering the minister said is instructive and expedient as key ingredients in tackling the security challenges facing the country at moment.
Hence he said the need for the renewed efforts at gathering relevant information, especially at the grassroots is now.
He said “Whenever there is a national discussion on internal security, the interior ministry shiuld be at the centre of it. “Therefore we must maximize grassroots penetration for intelligence gathering.
“At the centre of this grassroots penetration is the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC)because they are well-positioned in our communities and among civilians.”
The minister who said that it is difficult to believe that kidnappers and bandits are able to successfully move large numbers of people into the bushes without anyone noticing, also called on the Nigeria Immigration Service, (NIS), to protect and guard the territorial integrity of Nigeria’s borders.
He further reiterated that the Nigeria Correctional Service has been declared a red zone and all who threaten to break in or out of the prisons are considered as security threats and would be ruthlessly dealt with.
The chairman of the board of the agencies, Mrs. Aisha Ahmed, in her remarks said the promotion process was rigorous and only those that merited the ranks, were promoted.
Eight officers were promoted across the agencies; four DCGs in immigration, three DCGs in corrections service and one DCG in the NSCDC.
Kogi police Commissioner denies knowledge of any ransome paid for release of abducted council boss
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Edeh has said he is not aware any ransome was paid to secure the release of Hon. Pius Kolawole, Yagba West Council Chairman who wad abducted at the weekend.
He spoke while confirming his release.
CP Edeh said the Council Chairman regained his freedom through the combined efforts of the Police other sister agencies, hunters and vigilant men.
According to him, technology was deployed in the rescue operation as well as unrelenting pressure mounted through continued search in the forests.
Edeh indicated that the search which commenced on Saturday, saw his men and the team working round the clock until the Chairman was rescued.
He added that, ” I’m however not in the picture of any ransom payment.
The abducted Council Chairman of Yagba West LGA in Kogi State, Hon. Pius Kolawole regained his freedom from his abductors Wednesday
He was abducted on Saturday evening while returning to Kogi State from Ilorin, Kwara State.
A family source said the Chairman was welcomed and received by jubilant supporters and Family members in his hometown Egbe.
The Council Chairman it was gathered is hale and hearty and has reunited with his family and terming supporters.
Pro- Buhari group threatens to expose Govs, others who sponsor insecurity, banditry
A pro Buhari group, #ISTANDWITTBUHARI has threatened to name all the Governors, other sponsors of violent campaigns that are bent on bringing down President Muhammadu Buhari’s Government and cause ethnic war.
The group gave one month ultimatum within which they expect such evil people to refrain from their activities of causing insecurity in the country or face outright exposure.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja spokesperson of the group honorable Ifeanyi Nonso Ogadimma claimed the group have in their possession some classified information on details of some of the plans put in place by members of the opposition to further politicize the security situation in the country so as to score cheap political goals.
“We also have a list of their names from state governors down to political influencers, youth organizations and clandestine organizations under their payroll through which they wish to unleash more terror in some volatile states especially in the south.”
Ogadinma said have their identity as well as theur residential addresses down to their villages.
“We are therefore giving you until the end of the month the opportunity to immediately disband your private militia groups and henceforth discontinue your sponsorship of banditry and terrorism in Nigeria
“If you refuse to immediately arrest the situation in your respective areas by the end of the month, we will not only expose your identities to the world but also embark in mass action against you in your respective locations.”
Ogadimma said that they would have gone public with the information in their possession but for the security agencies working on it.
The group which stands with Buhari said they will wait till the end of month to take action.
