Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq has urged Nigerians to reflect on the reason for the season as Muslims celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Kabir.
The Special adviser on Media to the Minister Nneka Ikem Anibeze in a statement said, Umar Farouq called for prayers to unite the country and reduce humanitarian crises including internal displacement, refugees, hunger, killings and terrorism.
While felicitating with Muslim faithfuls, she preached love for one another, sacrifice for the nation, peace, love and kindness as advocated by the Prophet Muhammed.
“Let us continue to pray for the unity of the country especially the vulnerable among us. May Allah grant us peace as we celebrate Eid and may we witness more celebrations as a united nation”, Umar Farouq said.
The Minister said a peaceful Nigeria will reduce the number of displaced and vulnerable people in the country.
“If we spend less on IDPs and victims of communal clashes, cattle rustlings or banditry, government can channel such funds to other capital projects.”
She promised that the government will continue to do everything within its power to ensure a country that all Nigerians will be proud of.
IGP rolls out new NPF Manpower Development policy
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has announced the new Nigeria Police Manpower Development Policy.
The IGP made the announcement during the decoration of twenty-four (24) newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The decoration of the AIGs is the first phase in the decoration exercise of a total of One Hundred and Sixty-Seven (167) Senior Police Officers recently approved by the Police Service Commission following their recommendation by the IGP.
The IGP noted that the Manpower Development Policy of the Force is a deliberate protocol to identify, elevate, and position professionally competent officers who will act as the Strategic Police Managers that will drive the new policing vision and give effect to strategies at responding to current and emerging security threats in the country.
The Policy also he said prioritizes human capacity development and welfare of Police Officers for better police service delivery.
The IGP, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, charged them to deploy their wealth of experience to support his leadership mission of positively changing the policing and internal security narratives in the country. He also encouraged the officers to discharge the schedules of their new rank within the dictates of the law and the policing expectations of the citizens.
The IGP expressed appreciation to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR for consistently committing to the Nigeria Police reform Agenda. He thanked the Police Service Commission for supporting and aiding the new human capacity development of the Force and equally appreciated the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, the Senate and House Committees on Police Affairs, for their support to the police modernization, re-orientation and re-equipment drive.
Dignitaries at the Decoration Ceremony were the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammed Maigari Dingyadi, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Musa Bello, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, MFR, mni, NPOM, Members of the Force Management Team, Traditional Leaders, amongst other dignitaries.
Turbaning of Alhaji Zakari Dangana as Shugaban Afemai holds wednesday
All is now set for the Turbanning Ceremony of Alhaji Zakari Ahmadu Dangana(ONOGIE) as the Shugaban Afemai Lokoja by the Mandarin of LokojaHis Royal Highness, Muhammed Kabir Maikarfi 111, OON, FKSP.
A statement signed by the Chairman of Afemai Progressives Union Lokoja, said the Turbanning Ceremony will hold tommorow, 21st July, 2021 by 9:00am at the Maigarin of Lokoja Palace.
According to the statement, reception follows immediately after the Turbanning at the residence of Alhaji Zakari Dangana, beside Abiodun Ojo Filling Station Lokongama.
Humanitarian ministry strengthens 15 states with emergency response training
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has held its second training of emergency responders in the Southern states of the country to assist in handling emergency situations in their various communities more effectively.
The special Adviser to the minister on Media Nneka Ikem Anibeze in a statement indicated the Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq declared the training open in Ikeja Lagos on Thursday.
She quoted the Minister to have said that the capacity building initiative is aimed at training local community first responders to address specific needs of the vulnerable, mitigate the effects of a hostile environment on persons of concern and handle the possible long term impacts of crises in their various communities.
The Minister who was represented by the Deputy Director Humanitarian Affairs, Mr Charles Anaelo stated that the training will serve as a platform for exchange of ideas and experience sharing from field operations with a view to entrenching efficient and effective delivery.
“The Ministry believes that enhancing your capabilities on migration issues related to disasters must include training. That is the surest means of guaranteeing that you meet the needs of affected communities at the inception of an incident or disaster, as your roles are always at the initial phase of the disaster.
“This training, therefore, has been carefully designed to guide you (being the closest to the communities) to understand the effects of disasters on migration and how to mitigate such. You are also expected to acquire the ability to appropriately respond to migration resulting from disasters”.
A representative of the partnering organization Mzury Nigeria Limited, Mr. Nuhu El-Dudeen, described the intervention as timely and called on well meaning individuals and organisations to key into initiatives that promote the well being of the masses.
“Mzury Nigeria Limited, a consulting firm located in Abuja has over time partnered with many organisations where our consultants take up capacity building roles for their personnel. This is exactly what we are doing with the Ministry. We are calling on other well meaning Nigerians and organisations to collaborate with government and other companies to bring succor to vulnerable people in the society”.
One of the participants from the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Chinasa Mba, expressed optimism that the two-day training would equip them in carrying out their duties of saving lives and property in a more professional way.
“In line with the theme of the workshop, we are to get the necessary skills and knowledge which we would in turn take back to our different states to ensure that we respond professionally to situations requiring interventions especially with the massive migration of displaced persons to other parts of the country due to insecurity”.
The two day capacity building for community emergency response teams drew many participants from State Emergency Agencies in Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross-River, Delta, Edo, Ondo,Ekiti, Oyo, Osun, Ogun and Lagos States, as well as the National Emergency Management Agency.
Last week, a similar programme was held for emergency responders in 19 northern states of the country.
