Kogi at 25: Olafemi wants citizens to project State higher than personal interest

The former acting Governor of Kogi State Clarence Olafemi has admonished the citizens of the State against selfish and personal interest so that the State can leap frog over its challenges of ethnic and social differences.
The former Governor who spoke to confluence update in Lokoja appealed to the citizens to start loving one another as well as the State
“Let us project the State over and above our own personal interests as we mark its 25 years.”
He said the creation of the State was not a coincidence as people from the old Kabba were brought together comprising of the the West, the Central and the Eastern senatorial district of the present Kogi State.
He advocated for the immortalization of all past leaders that Governed the State in the last 25 years of its existence.
He said for the State that was created on August 27th, 1991 series of leaders have governed the State adding that Each leader has contributed his or her quota to the development of the State no matter how small.
He said, “To rule a state is not an easy task, it is only those that have carried the mantle that know how difficult it is and so there is no leader that has governed the State that does not deserve commendations and recognition.
“Some are dead while others are still alive. The names of the past leaders of the State should be immortalized because they have contributed in one way or the other to the growth and development of the State.”
He said nobody can finish developing a State within a regime adding that Development of a State is a continuous exercise.
Olafemi indicated that he takes exception to one Government criticizing another Government.
“Don’t criticise your predecessors, when you are given opportunity to Govern the State, start from there do your best and leave the rest for the people to judge.
“If we do that we will reduce the acrimony in the State because at the moment the State is being polarized along different divides to the extent that today we do not recognize our past leaders.”
Continuing he said, “Whether you are a senator, house of Representatives member, house of Assembly member, councillor, chairman or any other political office you hold from this Stayed you have contributed your own quota to the development of the State.
“The aggregate of all that is what has constituted the 25 years of our existence.”

He explained that tenure as acting Governor was the shortest but then he established the College of Education Technical Kabba and
Five special science secondary schools.
He said it was that period he awarded the Shintaku-Mosu road; the longest road in the Eastern flank.
“It was that period I awarded some council roads in Lokoja which today remain motorable and I touched all the 21 local Government in the distribution of infrastructure.”
According to him if given another he will still contribute his quota. Hence he advised that anyone with the opportunity to Govern must make his marks there is still a lot to be done.
He said as acting Governor he met N3.4B and he saved N400M within two months which he added to what was on ground and handed over N3.7M.
“I think that is the highest sacrifice I can make for the State despite the fact that I did everything that I achieved in the three months and the records are there for anyone to verify.”
He said the love of the State should be paramount as no Kogite can claim any other State
“I can’t claim Ondo, Ekiti, Benue, and any other State that borders us.
I have contributed my quota to the development of the State. I am 66 and I am not tired I am still willing to contribute to the development if the State depending on the opportunity Go

SELF backs Sylva over choice of Saipem on Bonny NLNG Train 7 contract

The South-south Emerging Leaders Forum (SELF) has faulted allegations of wrong doing leveled against the Minister of State for Petroleum Chief Timipre Sylva over the choice of Saipem, an Italian firm to handle the Bonny NLNG Train 7 contract.

SELF in a statement argued that the deal also endorsed by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Local Content Board Engr. Simbi Wabote was in the best interest of the country.

SELF position was in response to an online publication which accused the duo of bribe taking running into millions of naira in the deal.

SELF warned the publisher of the medium , Mr Jackson Ude, to desist from blackmailing leaders of the South-south extraction in a bid to score political goals.

Urging the Publisher of the online medium to show proof his allegation, SELF noted: “We strongly condemn the allegation leveled by Pointblanknews.com and its sponsors, this is highly condemnable and viewed as a sponsored plot to instigate hate against the Minister and derail his concentrations.

“This is ridiculous and belittling of Jackson Ude, the face behind this blackmail for being petty to the ground level for publishing tissues of lies about the persons of Timipre Sylva and Simbi Wabote.

“Nigerians should not believe this and throw it into the dust bin. It’s incumbent on all well-meaning Nigerians to support the positive drive of Minister and collaborate with him, towards the actualization of the onerous task at stake.

“Although Jackson Ude and his medium Pointblanknews.com are criminally known for thriving in the business of blackmail, especially against the officeholders from the Niger Delta region. But this forum will henceforth resist this criminality by deploying all known instrumental of law to fight the faces behind these tissues of lies.

“This Forum is using this medium to warn the likes of Jackson Ude to stay away from Nigeria and the South-south most especially if they are not ready to turn a new leaf because the business of blackmail has long become outdated and unpopular.”

Great relief as Kidnapped Punch reporter, Nnodim regains freedom


It was a great relief for journalists, family members, friends and well wishers when the news filtered in that the Punch Newspapers reporter, Victor Okechukwu Nnodim who was kidnapped from his residence in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council on Thursday has regained freedom.

He was released almost 48hours hours after his abduction alongside two other neighbours who were also abducted.
It was gathered early hours of Sunday that he has been released and in high spirits.

The media world was jolted by the news of his abduction, as many turned prayer warriors supplicating for his freedom without any harm

His abductors, NationaUpdate learnt later communicated with his elder sister who resides in Lagos demanding for N10 million.

At the time of this report it could not be ascertained if ransom was paid before he regained freedom, but colleagues made efforts to contributed money towards his release, when it became obvious that the kidnappers were bent on collecting ransom.

The Federal Government  of Nigeria is partnering with private firms in its bit to actualise its policy of mass Housing.

Making the disclosure to journalists in Abuja Friday, the Treasurer of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria ( REDAN) , FCT Chapter, Dr Gbadewole Amos, said required counterpart funding  is being provided by the Federal Government for the actualisation of the policy.

Dr Amos who is also the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of the Crown Allied Global Realty and Homes,  said Nigerians will begin to see results of such partnership across the federation from 2022. Accordimg to him, REDAN is working with many other agencies in Nigeria to ensure that the Real Estate industry is well regulated in the country to enable Nigerians get quality and affordable housing units in all parts of the country.
In his words: “All our activities in the Association is tailored towards ensuring that our clients are put in the center of attraction and that they have value for their money.

“We provide affordable housing in various parts of Nigeria and the unique part of our business is that we have various facilities that are designed to meet your needs and requirements. 
” Our payment process is not a back breaking one as we have options where you can pay as low as 50% in the first installment and you are allowed to spread the remaining over the space of 6months to 1 year
