Kogi PDP rejects election results, describes them as charade, gun crazy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has rejected all results of the recently concluded election, describing the exercis as rape of democracy.

Lamenting further the party indicated that February 23 and March 9, 2019, were days democracy was murdered in the state and replaced with “Gun Crazy” system of government where guns are used to forcefully win elections.

The state deputy chairman of the party, Sam Abenemi, told newsmen in Lokoja, the state capital, that the election witnessed snatching of ballot boxes at gun point by government officials and sponsored thugs.

Reading from the statement titled “We reject the murder of Democracy in Kogi State”, he said democracy has been raped in Kogi state.

According to Abenemi: “The Presidential, National Assembly, supplementary national assembly elections and the state houses of assembly elections may have ended several days ago across the various voting points in our dear state, we in the Kogi state PDP, are still shocked by the desperation displayed by the APC led administration in the state, the role of security agencies like the police, the military and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The exercise may have ended and formally declared conclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the charade did not end without clearly validating initial concerns of the PDP and majority of Kogi people about the willingness of INEC to conduct credible elections.

” The recently held elections did not only take us several years backwards in our political evolution, aside the civil war of 1967, nowhere in Kogi State has ever witnessed the heavy militarisation of towns and villages by the APC like was witnessed during the just-concluded presidential, national and state assembly elections.

“It is, therefore, pursuant to the various infractions which characterised the election process that the Kogi State PDP rejects in its entirety the outcome of the elections in Kogi State.

“While good governance, vigorous campaigns usually herald elections in Nigeria, Kogi state became a theatre for rigging and electoral violence amongst other infractions obviously because the APC led administration has failed to meet the yearning and aspiration of the people, substituted democracy for ‘Gun Crazy,.

“Kogi people would also recall that the PDP has repeatedly raised alarm about arms importation into the state, training of armed thugs as vigilantes, an unholy romance between serving members of the state cabinet with INEC officials. Also disenchanted staff of the state government and even security operatives revealed the existence of questionable relationships between key staff of the INEC in Kogi State and various individuals especially government appointees all of whom have various interests in the just concluded elections.

“As a party we have had to raise several alarms about the nefarious activities which indicated that large sums of money and other non cash items including brand new SUV’s, sacks of rice, beans, sugar and garri meant to induce key officials of the INEC, interfere with the voting process and influence the outcome of the elections thereby subverting the will of the people had exchanged hands.

“As a party, we specifically disclosed that the ruling party in Kogi state having been rejected by the people were likely to utilise intimidating tactics to shore up the votes, as well as deter large turnout of electorates in opposition strongholds. These fear came to the fore as under the cover of security agencies, PDP members, candidates were arrested, detained, abducted, with heavy voter intimidation accompanied by violence in the just concluded elections.

He said with the outcomes INEC had provided sufficient the leverage for the heavy malpractices that was the hallmark of the just concluded elections.
He said the INEC, security agencies played active collaborator role in the distortion of the electoral process as witnessed by Kogi people and the world.

“Not only were deaths recorded in Ankpa, Okehi, Dekina, Bassa and Lokoja local government areas, but there were also cases of abduction of members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Dekina, Ajaokuta, Yagba West, Igalamela Odolu, Olamaboro and Kabba Bunu areas”, he added

AESID hails Ebonyi CP, warns against intimidation of judges by state govt

The Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the Diaspora (AESID) has warned the state government to stop intimidating Judges in the cause of their duties, even as it commended the new Commissioner of Police for being professional.

The Ebonyi indigenes said the agents of state government were trying to manipulate the judiciary into causing trouble in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

In a statement released by its President, Amb. Paschal Oluchukwu, on Sunday in Abuja, the association said the goal is to continue to cause division in the PDP by having the Nwebonyi group parade as a factional State Exco of the PDP through Suit No: HAB/161/2020 with Roy Umahi as the lead counsel to the Plaintiffs.

“We condemn, whole and entire the desperate attempts to use the Judiciary to achieve the threat of being in APC and sponsoring crises and divisions in the PDP.”

While commending the Ebonyi Judiciary for remaining firm as the last hope of the common man, the statement charges it to remain steadfast and unwavering.

“Already, we have read in the media through the former Assistant Financial Secretary of the Nwebonyi group who recently dumped the camp, Linus Ogazi how Governor Umahi divided the Excos in order to create a parallel faction of the party.

“AESID is also aware of the threats and intimidations that the young man has been receiving since he made the disclosures and wishes to call on Security agencies to call the Governor, his brothers and the Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly who have been dishing out threats to him to order. They should be held responsible for whatever happens to Mr. Ogazi.”

On the activities of the new Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Garba, the group thanked the police for their professional role in ensuring that those who staged a protest recently at the state High Court were dispelled peacefully.

“We, however wish to counsel the new CP to remain as professional and apolitical as his erstwhile colleague, CP Philip Maku who has been transferred from the state.

“AESID also calls on security agencies and INEC to obey the order of Justice I. E. Ekwo of the Abuja Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1609/2020 restraining David Umahi’s faction of the PDP in Ebonyi State led by the gadfly, Nwebonyi and his cohorts from parading themselves as officers of the Party. They should therefore provide security and accord protection to the Udeogu-led Exco to legitimately takeover the State Secretariat of the Party for the interest of justice, peace and unity of the opposition party.

“AESID lastly commends the Udeogu-led Excos and indeed, the teeming members of PDP for their calmness, steadfastness and resoluteness amidst attacks and wanton provocations by Governor Umahi and his surrogates. For in the end, it shall indeed, be proven to all that Ebonyi is PDP and PDP is Ebonyi State and Umahi is only a solo naked dance in his new political voyage!”

He appealed to aggrieved members to put the party before their interest, for the victory of the party.

“We must forget all our grievances, set aside all our personal interest for us to win because it’s only PDP that can be able to rule this country” he stated.
He said the days of the All Progressive Congress APC are numbered as President Muhammad Buhari will not support Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s candidature in the coming 2023 general.

He claimed that in the near future, there would be no more APC because the whole of APC is made of two people Buhari and Tinubu.
