PDP asks Nigerians to rally together to save the country from failing

***Says the country has been on autopilot

President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2021 New year speech underscored the urgent need for Nigerians to rally together to salvage the nation which is fast heading for a failed state, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said .
The statement was contained in the party’s reaction on new year day by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, to the President’s speech.
The opposition party said the least Nigerians expected from their President, in the new year, was a decisive will to tackle the security challenges by reviewing his parade and heeding the demands by Nigerians to rejig the nation’s security architecture.

The Party said it was appalling that on New Year day, all that President Buhari could offer “a troubled and frustrated nation” was a regurgitated script allegedly full of lame excuses and empty promises that address nothing.

“The myriads of lame excuses in the President’s address again underlines our national misfortune of a weak leadership that is unable to resolutely confront and vanquish bandits, terrorists, kidnappers and vandals who are now holding our nation hostage, ravaging our communities, kidnapping and beheading our compatriots without restrain.

“On the economy, Mr. President failed to articulate a definite economic recovery blueprint.

“He had no clear strategies to shore up the value of our naira, repay and end our foreign borrowings, revamp our external reserves, give hope to foreign investors, move promises of job creation from the perpetual drawing board and guarantee food security, health care among others.

“The situation at hand requires more than an armchair commander-in-chief who only dwells on excuses for manifest failures.

“President Buhari’s new year address only points to the fact that our nation is in dire need of a leadership that is willing, able and ready to engage from the fronts.

“Mr. President had the opportunity to redeem his administration by taking steps that will address high costs of food, education and housing deficit; address the high price of fuel, multiple taxes and tariffs that bear pressure on businesses and families as well as how to enhance national productivity and grow our Gross Domestic Produce (GDP).

“In the same vein, our party finds it lamentable that President Buhari, in his reference to the demonstration by our youths, did not make any decisive pronouncement to end the on-going persecution of EndSARS protesters or order a Presidential inquest into the reported Lekki killing.

“Moreover, the failure by Mr. President to make direct commitment on budgetary provisions exposes a lack of will and direction, and shows that the next two years under the Buhari-led APC administration would leave our nation with forlorn hope,” the party said.

2023: It’s Our Turn To Produce President- North Central Patriot

Ahead of 2023 presidential election, a group, under the aegis of North Central Patriot, has called on the region to agitate for presidency.

The agitation, the group said, has become imperative as the region has not produce presidency since the inception of democracy in the country in 1999.

The group urged the people from the region to come together and fight for this position as 2023 has given another oppotunity for such agitation.

The North Central Patriot specifically urged its people to take advantage of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zonal congress coming up in Benue on Saturday, adding that such avenue is good opportunity to express this concern to members.

The group noted that the Zonal Congress is an avenue to put plans in place for the call for North Central presidency.

The group, in a statement by its President, Bitrus Paul, noted that if there is any better place or time for this agitation is this congres.

The North Central Patriot said: “Enough is enough, this is our time to produce the President. Other zones have had a stint in that position, we also need to taste it. The era of playing the second fiddle is over, we also need to lead the affairs of this nation.”

The group pointed out that North Central doesn’t lack quality leaders, who can hold positions, give directive and lead the nation from all fronts.

“No section of this country should be ignored when it comes to leadership position. The region has been ignored too long. This is the time for us to rise up and claim what we believe is ours at this point in time,” the group said.
