Respite as Osun Nominee for INEC commissioner designate is screened

Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission finally screened Tella Adeniran Rahmon the new Osun nominee as Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.


Rahmon was nominated by President Buhari as replacement for Raheem Muideen who failed the screening test when he admitted his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) before the committee earlier.
The 46 year old academic had appeard before the Senate INEC, for his confirmation screening after his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari, when he told the committee that he was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Aside declaring his commitment to the ruling APC he also confirmed a petition against his nomination by one Oyebade Adebisi Abideen alleging that he had openly supported a particular political party which negates constitutional criteria for INEC Commissionership job.
At the screening of his replacement Rahmon yesterday, the committee chairman Kabir Gaya explained that the other nominee Raheem Muideen had problem and the committee asked that they correct his issues and send him back or they bring a new nomination.
“The president brought a new nomination and the committee has gone through the Curriculum Vitae of the nomination. “He has spoken favorably and I think the committee has asked him to go and the committee will submit the report to the senate.
“He has a doctorate degree, he has been a lecturer for years, I believe he is equipped to be a better electoral commissioner.”

FG priortises exited N-POWER benefitiaries for CBN empowerment

The Federal Governmemt has offered previledge opportunity for the exited N-POWER benefitiaries as it has createda Portal that will enable  them to apply for Central Bank of Nigeria Empowerment Options.

The Portal has been launched by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Bashir Nura Alkali the Honourable Minister Sadiya Umar Farouq urged and encouraged interested Exited Beneficiaries of N- Power to log on to the portal and provide the required additional information for possible placements into the various CBN intervention options.

According to the statement, the platform which was developed in collaboration with the CBN will enable Exited N-Power Beneficiaries to log in and apply for the various economic, empowerment and entrepreneurship options provided by the CBN.

The Minister also emphasized that the NEXIT PORTAL will determine the suitability of the beneficiaries for the CBN affiliated programs.

“The NEXIT portal is to determine the suitability of the beneficiaries for the CBN affiliated programs and is dependent on meeting the criteria and conditions set by the CBN for the said programs”.

The Minister expressed her deep appreciation to the CBN Governor Mr Godwin Emefiele CON for his support adding that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs remained committed to the vision of Mr President to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years.
Minister Umar Farouq pledged the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate with relevant agencies of government and other stakeholders towards the realization of that vision and congratulated the exited beneficiaries while wishing them well in their future endeavours.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria is very proud of the milestones you have achieved during your period of service to the nation. As we prepare to exit into prospective endeavors, we are confident that you will be able to channel all you have learnt over the years into successful ventures that will improve the economy of the country and create further opportunities for you and other citizens.
“Chasing a dream requires effort, passion and hard work which you are now halfway through. I congratulate you and wish you a very successful future”.

Senate confirms Irukera vice Chairman/CEO of FCCPC

The Senate Thursday confirmed the nomination of Barrister
Babatunde Irukera as Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Federal Competition Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC} for another five years.

This followed the adoption of the report of the Committee on Trade and Investment.

Others whose appointment were confirmed are; Barrister Emeka Nwampa as the Chairman of the Board,  Wakili Ahmed as Executive Commissioner and Yinka Akpata as Executive Commissioner.

The rest are; Ben Nwoye as non Executive Commissioner, Theophilus Oyenibi and Ayang Eyam as non Executive commissioners.

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had requested for the appointment of  Babatunde Irukera as the vice chairman and chief executive officer FCCPC.

Nassarawa Gov commends youths for not partaking in EndSARS protest

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has commended youths in the state for not partaking in the recent #End Sars violence that took place in some parts of the country which culminated in colossal lost of innocent lives and properties.

Speaking through the State’s Commissioner for Information and Culture Mr Dogo Shamanah, during the launch of an Album “Nasarawa State for Peace” by one Habila Yusuf of the Maloney FM Radio Keffi at the weekend, theGovernor expressed delight that the youths in the state heeded the words of advice from the elders.
Hence they refused to engage in the unnecessary violence that would have earned them nothing but regret.

He said his administration being a youth friendly one would continue to initiate and execute youth friendly policies and programmes with a view to enabling them unlock their potentials to enhance their socio-economic development and prosperity.

Sule further disclosed that the skills acquisition programmes and entrepreneurship programmes being pursued all over the state were meant to make the youths and women acquire skills adding that at the end of the day they would become useful members of the society and self-reliant.

The Governor commended the initiator of the Album “Nasarawa for Peace” as he urged the people of the state to continue to maintain their spirit of peaceful co-
existence, unity and harmony with a view to attracting government’ssupport and
patronage.

Earlier in his remarks, the state’s Anthony-General and commissioner for justice, challenged the youths in the state and in the country to always strive to be self-reliant and at the same time work towards becoming employees of labour instead of remaining as Job seekers all the times.

He described the launch of the Album ‘Nasarawa for peace’ as a step aimed tiwards promoting his creativity which at the end would exposed him to limitless opportunities and enhance his prosperity.

He assured him of all the necessary support and patronage as he urged him not to relent in the task of rebuilding his creativity and the promotion of peace and
harmony which he described as veritable element for any meaningful peace and
development.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN)
Mr. Idris Ojoku commended the initiative of Mr. Habila Yusuf AKA DECOHSEE for launching the album which he described as highly inspiring as he supported
him with the sum of Fifty Thousand Naira.

Contributing a Keffi based legal practitioner Malam Dikko Haske commended the effort of Mr. Habila Yusuf for his creativity and challenged other youths to emulate him in other to contribute their quota to the building of a greater society for all and sunray to benefit from it.

While supporting the launcher with the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira, he stated that the gesture was meant to encourage him and motivate others to also give their own contributions especially for the promotion of peace and harmony in the society.

Responding the launcher of the Album Mr. Habila Yusuf who is a Radio Journalist and staff of the Maloney FM Keffi said,

“Nasarawa for Peace” is part of his contributions to the development of peace and prosperity in the state and even the country as a whole.”

He assured that he would continue to do his best to be more creative so as to promote peace and unity in the society.
