Senate Minority leader tackles Senator Adeyemi for attacking PDP

The endless blame game between the ruling All Progress Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came to a head in the senate recently leading to trading of tackles between senator Smart Adeyemi representing Kogi west and and the senate minority leader Eyinaya Abaribe over performance of the parties.

Senator Adeyemi who fired the first salvo was contributing to a motion moved by Senator Isah Jibrin represnting Kogi East on the Urgent need for the completion and take off of the Federal Government Aquaculture Project at Idah, Kogi state.

Adeyemi, a two term senator in the 6th and 7th National Assembly under the platform of the PDP dumped the party after losing the 2015 election to his arch rival Senator Dino Melaye.

He later cross carpeted from the PDP to the ruling APC just as Melaye left the APC for the PDP before the 2019 election.

Adeyemi contested the 2019 election on the APC  platform to stage a return to the senate but was again defeated by senator Melaye of the PDP.

However, the legal fireworks that challeged Melaye’s victory sent him packing when the court of Appeal ordered a rerun.

Senator Melaye was defeated paving way for a third term for Senator Adeyemi.

While contributing to the motion, Adeyemi indicated, “There was a time in this country when we had enough resources our problem was how to invest and utilize the resources that was availlable when oil was selling at $150, $140 per barrel.

“There was a party that got those resources but failed in its utilisation, we fail to realise that the meagre resources that are availlable in our country today is being well utilized by President Muhammadu Buhari. “There was one party that was making Billions from sales of crude oil. They never thought of how to diversify the economy, Now we have APC Government in place that is doing well.”

On the Aquaculture in Idah that has been lying fallow for 22 years

Adeyemi said it is so depressing that the Equipments for have been imported since  2008 and that they are yet to be installed.

“More than ever before the time has come for us to make sure that such projects are completed. I think more importantly is the fact that we are now compelled as a nation to now think of how we can diversify our economy and make sure that there is local production of foods and other agricultural needs of our nation.

“Just yesterday our president flagged off the N2.6 billion Naira gas pipeline across the country.

“We are happy that we are a very progressive Government, a party that is well focused, a party that has diversified our economy.”

He observed that the completion of the Aquaculture project in Idah will not only increase fish production in the country but more importantly it will provide job opportunities to the teeming youths looking for job.

“The project is a laudable one and when completed the nation stands to benefit a lot from it.

“I am sure senate President and others who belong to the progressives would be very happy that this type of project would be completed by the Buhari Administration.

“It is going to open up other frontiers that remain untouched even when the nation was having billions of Naira coming from crude oil sales.

“President Buhari is using very scarce resources availlable in a manner that all of us are very proud”

He said he is looking forward to when some of his colleagues on the other side will cross over to where there is progress.

Senator Abaribe however challenged senator Adeyemi to confine himself to the motion in question.

“I will like to make this very small contribution, while we commend this motion the rest of the members if the senate know that some people benefited by going in the night to the villa  every time as member of the inner caucus  of the Jonathan Government.

He said he can mentioned thename of who so benefitted tremendously from Jonthan.

The Senate President Ahmad Lawan in his contribution said,  he thought somebody was going to raise order 53(4) against the minority leader,  “But you see how gracious the Progressives can be, but we are all Progressives, you missed the opportunity to justify our thinking, that you are also a progressive.

“I know what you people did in the 7th Assembly, that axis of evil men. You are talking to your friend as a friend, Smart is a Progressives no longer in your fold.”

No PDP member defected in Ogbadibo -Media Group

By Our Reporter

A foremost media support group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, has described as untrue, the propaganda on the social media that some members of the party defected to the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC).

The group, Benue South PDP Social Media, in a statement on Friday by its Coordinator, Comrade Yemi Itodo, said those selling such propaganda were only doing so for personal gains, urging the public to disregard such “unfounded rumours”.

The John Ngbede led State Working Committee of the PDP had, on Tuesday, inaugurated the executive of the Ogbadibo chapter of the PDP.

Barely 48 hours after the inauguration, some APC members took to the social media, suggesting that some members of the PDP abandoned the party for the broom party.

But Comrade Itodo in the statement, said it was rather the APC members that indicated interests to join the ruling PDP which the chapter Chairman of the party, Hon. Vincent Amuche had hinted the state leadership of PDP and a new date shall be fixed to welcome over 3000 members of opposition parties who are itching to join PDP.

“I can authoritatively tell you that there shall be great tsunami in the camps of the opposition parties in the coming weeks. What has been delaying it was the inability to inaugurate the elected chapter executives, due to COVID-19.

“But now they are being inaugurated and you will be shocked at the caliber of persons that have already concluded arrangements to join PDP”, Itodo said.

He stressed that, “no member of PDP left the party for any other party”, challenging anyone with names and wards of those defectors to publish them.

“The truth is that, some aggrieved persons left their parties after the primaries did not favour them few years ago and joined forces with APGA, SDP, Labour, etc. So, if those persons decided to rejoin their parties, how would you ascribe such defections as from PDP?

“Do you know how many great members of PDP that had since returned to the party in their various wards without making noise”, Itodo posited.

While calling on the leadership of PDP in Ogbadibo and Benue South not to be distracted in the quest to have estranged members reunited into the fold and create enabling environment for those willing to defect to the party; Comrade Itodo warned the opposition parties against heating up the polity at the time all hands must be on deck in the business of governance of Benue State.
