SOKIPEP condemns killing of district head in Southern Kaduna by unknown gunmen

By Deborah Musa

The Southern Kaduna Peace Practitioners Network (SOKIPEP) has condemned the killing of the district head of Gidan Zaki Village, Mr Haruna Kuyet and his son in Zangon Kataf Local Government Council of Kaduna State.

It was reported that unknown gunmen attacked the home of the district head in the early hours of today, the unscrupulous elements also attacked the monarch’s wife and left severe life threatening machete injuries on her

The Southern Kaduna peace building group, in a statement on Monday by its National Coordinator, Rev. Dauda Fadia, described the event as an unfortunate incident coming at a time when peace had returned to the once troubled area.

He described the attack as callous, insensitive and reprehensible.

While condoling with the families of the deceased, the people of Southern Kaduna and the Government of Kaduna State over the unfortunate attack, the group charged security agencies to go all out in fishing the perpetrators of the crime to face the law.

It also called on the people of the area to not fret but remain calm, saying security agencies were capable of unravelling the culprits.

According to the group, it was impossible to rule out cases of clear cut assassinations given the situation of the killers whom it noted, carried out their action in hooded form.

The late monarch was described as a peace lover, SOKIPEP revealed while wondering the intention of the assailants

The security agencies were tasked to probe the killings with neutrality, to bring the perpetrators to book.

“The intention of the attackers is yet unknown to us even as we are compelled to believe that their premeditated action was intended to cause ethno-religious disharmony in our area,” the organisation said in the statement.

The statement read in full: “We received with rude shock the barbaric, inhuman, retrogressive, and isolated dastardly attack and gruesome killings of the district head of Gidan Zaki village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Council of Kaduna State, Mr Haruna Kuyet, his son and machete attack of his wife by some criminal elements.

“We condole with the families, community and Zango Kataf Local Government Area of kaduna State over this development. Our hearts go to the family, community and the entire Zango Kataf people. We pray for the repose of their souls.

“This callous and insensitive action is reprehensible. It is regrettable that this came at a time peace had returned to the area.

“The intention of the attackers is yet unknown to us even as we are compelled to believe that their premeditated action was intended to cause ethno-religious disharmony in our area.

“This is so, given that the attackers, according to our findings carried out their dastardly act in hooded form.

“We wish to further state that all evidence and information available to us are pointing to the fact that the killings are clear cases of assassinations.

“While not trying to indict or exonerate anyone, we call on the security agencies to probe these killings thoroughly. The probe must start from the community to the outside world.
“They should not be swayed by any statement which may be issued by some fifth columnists and crisis entrepreneurs to divert their attention from the crime to a particular tribe or religion just to cover their evil agenda.
“Besides, we task the security agencies to probe the killings with neutrality, to bring the culprits to book.

“The district head was a peace maker whose reign was adjudged to be fair and just to all. He was known for his uprightness and sincerity and so did not deserve to die in the manner his attackers killed him and his lovely son. Their deaths must not be in vain.

“All hands must be on deck to track and arrest the killers soon, too.”

Bail jumping Maina nabbed in Niger Republic

The former Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, who jumped bail and fled Nigeria has been nabbed by Security agents.
.
Maina was apprehended by operatives of Niger Republic intelligence service in a collaboration with Nigerian anti-corruption agency on Monday evening.
Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Maina for alleged money laundering to the tune of N2billion.
Maina is facing a 12-count money laundering charge levelled against him and a firm by the EFCC.

EFCC alleged that Maina, as Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, used the account of the firm for money laundering to the tune of about N2 billion, part of which he used to acquire landed properties in Abuja.
He, however, has not been attending trial since the September 29, 2020 proceedings, a development that prompted Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court to order the detention of Senator Ali Ndume last Monday.
But the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted bail to the Borno South Senator over his suretyship for Maina believed to have jumped bail.

PDP says killing of 43 farmers is devilish, wicked

The gruesome beheading of 43 innocent farmers by insurgents in Zabarmari, Borno state is extremely wicked, devilish and must not be left unaddressed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said.

The party indicated that the horrific killing of compatriots comes as yet another of the recurring horrid testament and badge of failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration to secure the nation and guarantee the safety of lives and property in the country.
The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the PDP is indeed is distressed by the escalated killing and maiming of innocent Nigerians by insurgents, bandits and marauders, who have continued to ravage and pillage communities, while the lazy and lethargic Buhari administration continues with its lip service, rhetoric and false performance claims.

The PDP also said that it is particularly disturbed because of the failure of the Buhari Presidency to take decisive action despite series of concerns raised by the Borno State governor, Prof. Baba Gana Zulum, of security compromises in the state.
It said that the Buhari administration appears helpless while the national security structure under him seems to have collapsed. “Our nation appears to be on auto pilot with no one in charge while the ship of state continues to drift.”
The PDP further said; “All our nation gets from the Buhari Presidency is that ‘Mr. President is shocked’, ‘Mr. President is saddened’, ‘Mr. President regrets’ and such lame responses without any decisive policy direction or directive to definitively tackle the situation at hand, leading to escalation of killings in our country.

“Such attitude by the Buhari administration has continued to embolden insurgents to the extent that they now attack military formations, convoys of state governors and engage in wanton beheading of our compatriots.”
“It is distressing that despite this sorry situation, Mr. President, who promised to lead from the front, has receded into the safety of Aso Presidential villa and refused to act on the consistent demands of Nigerians to rejig the national security architecture and replace the service chiefs with more capable hands to affectively tackle our security challenges”.
The PDP therefore charged President Buhari to stop his unhelpful rhetoric but should sit up and take actions that will safeguard the lives of Nigerians who have been subjected to all manners of mental and physical torture under “this incompetent” administration.
It further said; “Mr. President should immediately move to Zabarmari in Borno state, empathize with the families of the victims and lead from the front in restoring security in the area”.
The PDP commiserated with the government and people of Borno State and urge Nigerians to remain at alert particularly in providing useful information for the security agencies in this fight against insurgency in the land.

PSC describes Farmers Killing in Borno as horrifying and Barbaric

The unprovoked and mindless killing of innocent and hardworking farmers in Borno State is horrifying and barbaric especially at a time that all efforts are geared towards restoring peace and order in the troubled North East zone of the country the police Service Commission has said.
In a statement issued by the Commission’s head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, he said that it is particularly disturbing that the victims of the callous act were ordinary harmless Nigerians who were in their farms to seek for livelihood only to be slaughtered like rams and chickens.
The Commission said; “There can never be any justifiable reason for this madness and cruelty”.
It therefore called on the security agencies to quickly re-strategize and put an end to the unending circle of killings in the North East, and advised the citizens to be in the forefront as security has become the business of everybody.
The PSC further said; “We wish to commiserate with Mr. President, the leaders of the North East, the Government and people of Borno State and the families of the assassinated farmers on this sad development. We pray that God will see the nation through these difficult times”.
The Commission however maintained that it will however continue to partner with the security agencies in the search for a durable and workable security arrangement for the country.
